Ressources & Tips
Making a video can be really easy, even for those who have never done it before! You just have to follow the next 3 steps.
Step 1: The preparation
Get inspired by examples of science popularization
We strongly encourage you to check out TikTok for inspiration! Creators like @astroathens, @Nilered, @instituteofhumananatomy, @Nasjaq, @nicholas_gkk and @coolchemistryguy are good examples but there are many more!
Script
Imagine how you want to present your project. What scenes should be there? Do you want to present images and/or videos (royaltee-free) and do narration or do you prefer to film activities in the laboratory or in the field? Take the spectator’s point of view and keep it.
Make a list of scenes to film, determine their length and place them in chronological order. Add details as needed.
Write a content script.
Register to the contest
Registering for the contest officialises your participation. After registering, you can submit your video.
RegisterStep 2: Shooting
It is now the time to film!
Pay attention to the lighting when filming.
Make sure the sound quality from your microphone is decent when you record yourself speaking!
Step 3: Editing your video
Choose a video editing app
Tiktok
The TikTok app is very easy to use, select 3 min maximum length and shoot your clips. Then save them in your “Drafts” and continue later if necessary. You can then edit your video directly with the TikTok app or with a free software. Have fun exploring the options. For example, feel free to add text boxes to reinforce the content.
Shotcut
Shotcut is free and is ideal for beginner to intermediate editors.
DaVinci Resolve 17
DaVinci Resolve 17 is also free, but for intermediate to advanced publishers. This software is interesting for those who want to do serious video editing.
Adding content
Don’t hesitate to check out royalty-free image, video or soundtrack banks like Pixabay & Pexels to add quality content to your video. Do a Google search if necessary.
If you use a soundtrack, images or videos that you are not the author of make sure that they are royaltee-free.
Are you stuck?
Plenty of tutorials are avaiable on Youtube (video editing, etc.). Check them if necessary.
